UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Michigan drivers are well aware of how, in areas with cold weather, paved roads often begin to crack and fall apart over time. When roads become too deteriorated, they must be repaved. The Ingham County Road Commission, however, is trying to prevent the problem before it worsens by spraying liquid sealer onto some roads to rejuvenate the asphalt.
The rejuvenation process involves spraying the liquid sealer, called reclamite, on top of the road and allowing it to penetrate into the asphalt, which will keep it flexible longer and make it so the street will not deteriorate as quickly. This is the first year that Meridian Township is using the reclamite spray, and attention will be placed on how well this process works towards maintaining these roads for longer periods of time. If this rejuvenation proves to be as efficient as it claims to be, the process may be repeated on more roads in future years.
The reclamite spray helps roads that are less worn to remain in good condition before they become so bad that re-pavement is necessary. This process would not have much of an effect on roads that are too heavily degraded; those roads require repaving or resurfacing.
Because the spray works best in warmer weather, the road work started on September 26th of this year and was complete on all twelve roads in just two days.
