MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - If Kinawa Drive is part of your daily commute, you may see some changes starting to take place this week to improve safety in front of Chippewa Middle School.
Part of the sidewalk on the north side of Kinawa will be replaced by a seven-foot sidewalk to correct some drainage issues. Rapid-flashing beacons will also be installed at the crosswalk in front of the school to alert drivers that students may be passing through. Meridian Township Chief Engineer Younes Ishraidi said that part is still in the early phases.
"The beacons are currently being bid out, and we hope we get the bids by the end of the month, and, shortly after that, we'll have them installed," Ishraidi said.
Ishraidi says the sidewalk replacement will take about a week, and he hopes to have the project complete by the time school starts in early September.
