LANSING - Happendance celebrated 40 years this past Saturday with their Velocity! Concert Dance at the Lansing Community College Dart Auditorium.
Happendance is a non-profit dance service organization and a professional dance company that was founded by Diane Newman back in 1976.
Newman, along with the other original dancers have been referred to as “The Wise Women” for this performance. Along with other Happendance dancers, these women performed a dance called The Legacy, choreographed by M. Jane Gamble.
According to the Director of Health and Education Services for Happendance, Heather Vaughan-Southard, “I think the audience can expect to see joyful movement. We have a range of movement qualities and movement styles and genres of dance but you get to really see a wide range of people that have come together and have been moving to impact quality of life.”
Dancers from all skill and age levels collaborated for this show “where dance, art, poetry, and music merge,” according to the show’s program.
Following the show was an Afterglow at the Radisson Hotel Lansing.
