UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Douglas J Salon and Spa is planning to expand in Downtown Okemos. Representatives have presented their concept plan to both the Planning Commission and the Township Board. Now they will need to officially make an application to be reviewed by the Planning Commission before going back to the Township Board for final approval.

The Salon is currently located in Downtown Okemos, near to where the proposed new site will be.

In order to create enough room for this new salon, the concept plan includes tearing down the Traveler's Club, Triple Goddess Bookstore, and White Bros, Music.

Despite the teardown of these three businesses, Township Manager, Jerry Richards, believes that because Douglas J has been so positive to the community in the past, the acceptance of this project by the local and nearby residents is strong.

"Just anecdotally, the folks I talked to were positive about this. I think they see this as a major boost to the central business district and Okemos neighborhood and I think this is an investment in the community" said Richards.

Douglas J would like to start developing the new salon before the end of this year with the expected date of completion to be in the year 2014.
