Families Across Michigan will
Celebrate National Adoption Day

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - According to Lutheran Adoption Services, there are roughly 3,000 children waiting to be adopted in the state of Michigan.

Lena Wilson, Director of Lutheran Adoption Services, said: "National Adoption Month is the month of November and it's a very exciting month. It's designed to actually highlight the need for children in foster care for adoptive families."

Families will be finalizing adoptions at 12 different locations throughout Michigan as they celebrate National Adoption Day. However, The Wicht family will be finalizing their adoption in Jackson, Michigan.

"Well, we have a lot of kids. We have five biological kids, and Noah will make six adopted children," said Adoptive father, Tom Wicht of Jerome, MI.

Lutheran Adoption Services is currently collaborating with local courts and department of human service agencies. They are providing gift cards to families who are finalizing adoptions as well as educating the public about the need for foster and adoptive parents.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to create a family, and to start a family. I know some people get into it because there's the kind of "empty nesters" syndrome, but it's just a wonderful way not only to give, but to receive," added Wilson

Any Family who is interested in adopting can get started by calling their local department of human services or call Lutheran Adoption Services at 248-423-2770 to schedule an orientation.
