HOMTV is the Meridian Township Government Television station located in Okemos, Michigan.
HOMTV is Meridian Township's award-winning government channel housed inside the Meridian Township Municipal Building. We broadcast exclusive gavel to gavel coverage of township meetings and community news on Comcast Cable Channel 21. Our programs are also streamed live and archived on this website in the Watch HOMTV section.
HOMTV is also nationally recognized for its election coverage. We provide live election night coverage, candidate interviews, profiles, ballot proposal and millage information and live call in candidate debates. Everyone on staff works hard to bring this coverage to residents so they can make an informed and better educated decision at the polls.
HOMTV is funded through cable franchise fees. When a video provider used the public rights of way to deliver a video signal to the residents, they are required to pay the township a franchise fee. The monies collected from such use are allocated to provide information programming to the public. In Meridian Township, the franchise agreement between Comcast and Meridian Township allows 9 Public, Educational, and Government Access Channels.
21 HOMTV, Meridian Government Access
22 The Vision, Haslett Public Schools
23 The Okemos Channel, Okemos Public Schools
24 East Lansing Government and School Channel
28 WKAR Create, MSU Channel
27 WKAR World, MSU Channel
29 MSU Channel
30 Capital Area Media Television
31 LCC, Lansing Community College
These channels are a service provided through the Township's franchise agreement with Comcast for all cable subscribers.
AT&T is a new video provider entrant in the greater Lansing area. Public, Education, and Government channels (known as PEG) are carried in a digital format on channel 99 of the AT&T U-verse system. Due to the cost for Public, Education and Government stations to connect to their system, and due to the manner in which they provide service, CAMTV is currently the only PEG channel of the ones listed above that is offered on the AT&T U-Verse system.
The call letters HOMTV are derived from Haslett and Okemos, the two major communities comprising Meridian Township. It is pronounced like the word "home," to emphasize the station's focus on locally produced award-winning programming. In addition to broadcasting live township meetings, HOMTV provides over 150 original programs each year.
