Township Board Approves MDEQ Loan for Downtown Okemos Redevelopment Project

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At their meeting on Tuesday night, the Meridian Township Board approved a $1 million loan and a $1.3 million grant for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).

The loan was requested on behalf of the developer of the Village of Okemos Mixed Use Redevelopment Project in Downtown Okemos, and will offset over $7 million in expenses related to environmental cleanup activities.

If the project does not move forward, the developer will reimburse the Township, who will then reimburse MDEQ.

The Board voted unanimously in favor of the loan, and will review a concept plan for the project at their meeting on Tuesday, February 18.
