Lansing Ignite Soccer Team Announces New Professional League

LANSING - The secret is out, Lansing now has a professional soccer team.

Part of the USL League One, the newest professional soccer club Lansing Ignite will begin their opening season this spring. The announcement was made Thursday at Cooley Law School Stadium, where the Ignite will be sharing playing time with the minor league baseball team Lansing Lugnuts.

The Ignite's newest owner, Tom Dickson, also owns the Lansing Lugnuts. This is the first time that Michigan will have a professional soccer team since the Detroit Express in 1978-80. Lansing Mayor Andy Schor was also in attendance.

Around one hundred people witnessed first hand the unveil of the new Lansing Ignite logo as it was shown on the big screen in left field.

With the addition of Ignite to Cooley Law School Stadium, almost every weekend from late March to September. The USL League One features teams from South Carolina, Arizona, Toronto and of course here in Lansing.
