'Explore Nature' Event Perseveres as Cold Weather Hits

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - As the MSU Science Festival kicks off, so do the fun local events!

The Explore Nature Center event was this past weekend at the Harris Nature Center and there were big plans for lots of outside activities. However, the weather had other plans.

A combination of wind, rain and snow halted the planned outside scavenger hunt. Instead all the activities were moved inside. The move took a little bit of the magic away, but was still interesting for those who braved through the harsh weather.

"I think everyone that came was a little bummed out about the weather," Assistant Park Naturalist Rachel McDaniel said. "They definitely wished that we had our outside activities, and we did too. But we remained positive and they were just glad that we were still having the event I think."

The turnout wasn't as big as the nature center had hoped, but there are still many activities that MSU's Science Festival will offer this upcoming week.

"We've only had a few people come in," McDaniel said. "So it's kind of a bummer...The families that did come in and participate, they seemed to really have a good time and learn a lot. So it was pretty fun to see them enjoy nature."

MSU's Science Festival will continue throughout the week. To check out the rest of their events you can visit the website below.
