Meridian Township Flipping Switch On for LED Lights

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township is in the process of switching to LED lights.

Recycling and Energy Coordinator Leroy Harvey said LED lights are more efficient.

"For street lights, LED lights use 1/3 as much energy as a standard street light," Harvey said. "Replacing a fluorescent light with an LED light could have a payback of less than seven years."

Meridian Township plans to gradually switch to LED lights in the areas where most payback is expected.

Recent projects include the Meridian Township Service Center and the Okemos Library.
