Meridian Township Youth Learns Bicycle Safety

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Haslett Kiwanis Club recently sponsored a Bicycle Safety Rodeo for Meridian Township's youth.

Ages 3-10 were given a free bike inspection to ensure their bike was ready for the road and a free helmet for safety.

Kiwanis Bicycle Safety Rodeo Event Coordinator David Swanson said this event is especially important for the youth.

“To educate the kids," Swanson said. "Starting out when they are young and getting the proper instruction and following the rules of the road are very good habits to get in the habit of using.”

Obstacle courses were set up to model situations you may encounter on an actual road such as crossing the street and riding in the road alongside cars.

"I love making the kids educated about it," Swanson said.
