New Businesses Are Weeks Away From Opening

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Downtown Okemos is about to get a little sweeter. Mitten Raised Bakery is finishing the icing on the cake, or the final touches on the building that it, before they open their doors to the public. Owner Katie Anne Lambert said it’s been a long road, but they’ve already received a lot of support from the community already.

Lambert is an Okemos native and saw a great opportunity to become a part of creating and rebuilding the local business community in the area. When asked about how it feels to be a part of this community Lambert said, “it’s great! We are so lucky to be bringing our dream to life in our own backyard! So excited to be a part of it and can’t wait to see everyone!”

Mitten Raised will offer a variety of unique and handcrafted treats. As a way to keep things new and exciting, flavors will be rotated seasonally. The bakery also prides it’s on using locally sourced products whenever possible. Their website also states they can accommodated some food allergens, but anyone interested will need to contact them directly to discuss available options.

Mitten Raised will also strive to give back to the community. Lambert combine her love for animals with her love of baking and created a donut called ‘Puppy Love.’ On Saturday’s all proceeds from the donut will go directly to the Capital Area Humane Society. Although so far the Human Society is the largest group they’ve partnered with, Lambert stated Mitten Raised has plans to work with other groups as well in the very near future.

An opening date hasn’t been announced officially yet, but Lambert mentioned Mitten Raised will be open very soon. Mitten Raised will announced their Grand Opening on their website and Facebook page.

The building that was formally home to McAlister’s Deli will also soon be occupied, well at least part of it that it. Super Cuts snipped there way in and are getting ready to open next month. They’ve posted a sign on their front window stating they’re now hiring and are expected to be open May 25, 2017. According to Meridian Township Senior Planner Peter Menser no one is going to be moving into the second half of the building just yet.
