Chick-fil-A's Campout Gives Back to the Community

OKEMOS - Chick-fil-A is finally opening after a long, anticipated wait by residents. They are kicking off their grand opening by hosting their "First 100" Campout, where the first 100 people in line receive free Chick-fil-A every week for an entire year.

Many were lined up bright an early Wednesday morning, with the majority of people getting to the location around 6:30 am. People set up tents and brought activities to do while they wait for the grand opening.

Although the campout occurs outside, it was inside the restaurant where a difference was being made to help others in need. People who were waiting outside had the opportunity to go inside and help bag food that will go to the Greater Lansing Food Bank, which will be distributed to members of the community.

"We'll take these meals back to our warehouse, which is here in Lansing and will be distributed to folks in Ingham County, Eaton County, Clinton County. Anyone who is in need of food, they have access to this product," said Kim Harkness the Director of Operations of the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Partnering with the food bank to bag meals is just one of they ways the Okemos location hopes to help the community.

"It's important for us because we aren't just chicken. There's a lot more that we have to offer. We want to be able to do that anyway we can and thankfully this restaurant is a great platform to be able to do that," said Emily Lange, a new restaurant event planner for Chick-fil-A.
