Okemos Volleyball Forces Fourth Set as
Holt is Crowned CAAC Blue League Champion
in, 3-1, Victory Over Chiefs

HOLT - Holt volleyball topped Okemos, 3-1, in a tough four-set battle for the CAAC Blue league title.

Both teams had previously met on September 20, in regular season play, in a match that would also go Holt's way, 3-0.

With a chance of a rematch and snatching the top spot in the CAAC Blue, the Chiefs didn't leave without putting up a tough fight for the Rams.

The first set came down to the very last two points, but Holt had the advantage of scoring the very first point.

Unable to catch up, the Chiefs suffered a, 25-23, loss, and Holt headed into the second set up by one.

Modeling set one, set two would be a close game.

Holt scored first and Okemos would battle to catch up.

Tied at 20, Holt went on a five-point scoring streak to end the second set, 25-20, and get the two-game lead.

One more to go and the Rams would be crowned league champions, but Okemos wasn't willing to let this one end up like Holt's last sweep at the Ozone.

The third set was closer than ever, but multiple ties throughout the fight to reach 25 points.

This time, the Chiefs and the Rams tied the game at 21 points.

Holt would either win the match or the Chiefs would force a fourth set.

Set four went into a, 24-24, fight that now would have to reach 26 points.

After Okemos scored their 25th, Natalie Thom served, and as Holt received it, the second pass was called as a double set, giving the Chiefs the 26th point.

The Chiefs on the court celebrated as if they couldn't believe that they achieved what no other team had done in the CAAC Blue tournament: force a set loss for Holt.

The Rams had swept every opponent in the league competition so far, but Okemos was able to break that streak.

Holt still held a, 2-1, lead in games over Okemos, and the fourth set could also be a decisive one.

Another close set, but the fourth one was the final, as the Rams came out victorious, 25-20.

Winning, 3-1, Holt received the 2016 CAAC Blue league plaque, lifting it and celebrating the achievement.

Both teams will head on to play at the Class A MHSAA District finals, where Holt will have a bye week and Okemos will take on Parma Western, on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at Mason High School.

If the Chiefs win the first round of districts, they have another chance at a rematch with the Rams.
