Inside the Sport of Cross Country

OKEMOS - Cross Country is a competitive team sport that is offered in the fall for high school students.

The top five finishers from each team are scored and their finishing places combine for the team score. In this sport, the lowest score wins. Boys and girls run a total of 3.1 miles or a 5 K. Courses range from grassy fields, to wood paths, or even a mixture of terrains. Everyone runs the same route and the first seven runners are considered the scoring team.

Okemos Chief's Head Coach Brian Herrod shares with HOMTV some insight into the sport and the program at Okemos High School.
