HASLETT - The Haslett Beautification Association is bringing some competitive fun to Meridian Township.

They have created a contest to seek design ideas for the "Triangle by the Lake" property.

This property is located at Marsh, Reynolds, and Lake Street in Haslett.

According to Teri Banas, President of the HBA, the property was previously owned by a senior citizen and was well managed, but after the owner passed away the property became an eyesore.

The HBA is hoping to make the vacant property into a more visually appealing garden.

"We want it to say that you've arrived in a community that really cares about you and about itself," said Banas.

Ideas can be submitted to their website, beautifyhaslett.com, where you can also find contest guidelines and a map of the property that can be downloaded and used to sketch a design.

"Its going to be something that will develop over time but right now we really just want people to take a look at the property and to get some ideas of what they can envision there," said Banas. "It really is a nice gateway to the community."

They will be accepting design ideas for the next few months.

After selecting a final design for the garden, the HBA will begin fundraising to complete the project.
