Okemos Boy's Hockey Game Opener a Success

Okemos Boy's Hockey Game Opener a
Success

UPDATE: EAST LANSING, MI - Entering Friday night's contest, Okemos coach Bill Sipola didn't know what to expect.

"We had three defensiveman injured, so we were only playing with three of our six defenseman, said Sipola. "It's an unknown the first game of the season, not knowing the competition."

In their game opener against Grand Ledge-Waverly, the Chieftains began to raise those expectations.

Entering the second period leading Grand Ledge-Waverly 3-0, with 2:30 left in the period Tristan Eggenberger sneaks one in, expanding Okemos's lead 5-1.

Then in the third, Ryan Restum attempts the shot, it's deflected and Tristan Eggenberger pops it in. Okemos is now up 6-1. The trickery wasn't over though as Ryan Restum assists Joe White who sticks one past Grand Ledge-Waverly goalie Collin Witt, to score the final goal of the night, capitalizing Okemos's lead.

The Chieftains won their game opener 7-1, knocking down Grand Ledge.

"I thought it would be a closer game," said Sipola. "The puck started to bounce for us pretty well and so we got a couple quick, then I think it gets easier after that."
