INGHAM COUNTY - Ingham County Commissioners met Monday, June 15th to discuss what should be done with a surplus from the Ingham Health Plan Millage. The millage, which was passed back in 1998, has a stockpile of nearly $10 million and is gathering about $3.2 million annually.
The health plan was used by nearly 10,000 residents a few years ago, but participation has dropped 90%. The vast decrease in use is largely due to the Affordable Care Act and the 2014 expansion of Medicaid in Michigan.
Ideas for what to spend the surplus on ranged from using the money for the construction of a new county health center to decreasing the millage to lower the cost for taxpayers.
