Haslett Baseball Drops Two in Doubleheader

HASLETT - Haslett baseball took on the Dewitt Panthers in CAAC Red action on April 30th.

Sporting pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness, the Vikings pitching gave up a fair amount of walks in the contest, giving Dewitt free opportunities in a game where hits were limited.

Hayden Cross lead Haslett's offense, going 1-3 with a double. Zach Berry also grabbed a hit for the Vikings, but Haslett's offense was just not able to show up in scoring situations.

Justin Stygles went 2-2 with a RBI for the Panthers. In the top of 7th, DeWitt's Will Nagel blasted one over the left field fence for a solo shot to extend Dewitt's lead 4-0 over Haslett.

Haslett posted another scoring threat in the bottom of the 7th, but Dewitt pitcher Donovan Tarn struck out Berry Swining, then forced a groundout from Cullen Turner to seal the 4-0 victory and the shutout.

Dewitt's momentum would extend into the nightcap.

Connor Grice and JD Ross both went 2-2 and Nagel continued to show his power with a grand slam.

Hunter Ruhstorfer and Trace Woodworth both went 3-4 for the Vikings in game two.

Haslett had to use three pitchers to tame Dewitt's offense, but actually outhit the Panthers 11 to 8, even though the ended up on the losing end of a 7-3 score.

Haslett's next contest is a non-conference game on May 4 at Waverly High School.
