Okemos Can't Mount Another Game-Winner;
Falls 43-42 to Grand Ledge

OKEMOS - Grand Ledge closed the door on Okemos' season in a barnburner, 43-42, as the Comets locked in on defense with just a few second left in play.

Okemos had been in this position before. Down one point with the game on the line, and the Chiefs always turned to one man, until Wednesday.

With two game-winners on the season, everyone and their momma expected the ball to land in senior captain Conner George's hands.

During the last play of the game, Okemos inbounded the pass courtside with 10.3 seconds remaining.

Point guard Chaz Richardson danced around the perimeter, before handing it off to wing Ian Stagg with just five left. A couple dribbles later and a shot attempt with 2.5 seconds left never had a chance.

Grand Ledge's Jordan Goebel blocked the shot and, just like that, sent his team to the district championship.

Grand Ledge head coach Scott Lewis was one of many thought the ball was going to George, but Goebel just made a heads up play.

"He played great defense down there," Lewis said.

"We said we needed to have 10 eyes on George all the time."

Luckily, Goebel kept one eye on Stagg.
