Meridian Township Comes Up With Park Grant Strategy

Meridian Township Comes Up With Park
Grant Strategy

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township is applying for four park grants this year from the Department of Natural Resources.

This year's proposed projects include new pavilions at North Meridian Park and The Harris Nature Center, tennis court renovations at Hillbrook Park, and a land acquisition for a Ferguson Park extension.

With the new millage being passed just last August, Meridian Township now has match money available to help fund these projects.

Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Director LuAnn Maisner said they have a new strategy that will hopefully grant them some funding from the DNR.

"We have found with the Natural Resources Trust Fund the last couple years, they've funded every request that's been 50,000 dollars or less. So our strategy this year is to request 50,000 dollars and then we will fund the rest of the project, but at least it is helping to supplement our local money here in Meridian Township," said Maisner.

A public hearing is set to place at the next Park Commission meeting on March 10th at 7p.m. in the Town Hall Room at the Meridian Municipal Building.
