Local Author Shares What It's Like to
Release First Novel

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Writing a book can be a lot more complicated then it seems. New Michigan Fiction Author, John Kingston shared his journey on what it's like to release his first book.

Kingston's fiction novel titled "The Portraits of Gods" is centered around main character Bryan Wakefield and his journey to seek meaningfulness in his life at the age of 49. What makes Bryan different than most people, is his extraordinary ability to recall specify events from his past with great accuracy. This ability causes him to constantly dwell between the past and present.

No stranger to writing, author Kingston has been writing since he was six-years-old. While trying to release his first novel Kingston said, "So the hardest part, I mean it almost seemed like the book and I thought that was difficult, but the process afterwords was even more difficult. I had over 60 rejections at one point and so it's a little disheartening when you get that, but I stuck it out."

Until recently, writing was just a hobby for Kingston. He still works 12 hour days at his day job, while juggling being a husband and a father to two young girls. Even with a busy schedule, Kingston said he does make time to write every day.

As far as his motivation, Kingston doesn't allow wanting to be everyone's favorite author drive his literary work. Instead, Kingston said, "It's more important for me to write the truth, is how I feel it. I think that should be the motivation of any writer."

So far, "The Portraits of Gods" has received many positive reviews. One review in particular captured exactly what Kingston was hoping to convey with this novel.

Kingston shared what it feels like to have a reader fully take away what he put into this book, "Very satisfied. I think, I think when you're an artist or a writer and you do the best that you can to describes the words you're thinking or feeling. Sometimes you pull it off and sometimes you don't, but just to have one person who gets that, that's the point of trying to seek expression and I'm happy that I did that."

"The Portraits of Gods" is currently available through Amazon, Schuler Books, and Barnes & Noble. The novel will also be released as an e-book in April 2015.

With his first book published, Kingston now has two years to release his next book.
