MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Starting July 7 Spartan Paving will be reconstructing the Okemos Walmart parking lot. Construction will end July 14.

Spartan Paving associate, Norm Shaw requested that the Township Board allow construction hours to be from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Some board members were concerned that construction would not be completed in the given time frame.

Shaw said, “That’s a bigger window than I actually need, if the weather cooperates. Ideally we’d like to start one afternoon and finish by the next morning if everything goes well. Weather doesn’t always cooperate but like I say I have a window there and I can shift my operations if I have to. I’m comfortable with that but I can’t guarantee because of the weather, and for me it’s only a 300 ton job”

Residents in the area were uneasy about the over night noise. Shaw expressed that working over night would be safest for shoppers, and that most work will be performed during the day.
