Annual GolfFest Fundraiser Being
Held This Weekend to Help Those in
Need

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Community Resources Commission is holding its annual GolfFest Fundraiser on August 16 at the Meridian Sun Golf Club in Haslett.

The Commission said majority of people who need assistance are the elderly and under-employed. The CRC provides emergency financial assistance to those in need, but the harsh winter and economic recession caused demand for emergency assistance to rise, and the emergency funds are running low.

GolfFest is primarily where these funds come from, and the Commission said the funds help people in a variety of ways.

"The vast majority of it is for either evictions or utilities, but, sometimes, people need other things, like medications they need, emergency food (and) transportation. That covers at least 99 percent of it," said Meridian Township Human Services Specialist Darla Jackson.

The CRC is also selling raffle tickets for five dollars per ticket. There are more than 100 prizes being raffled off. Tickets can be purchased between now and the day of the event.
