EAST LANSING - For 20 consecutive years, MSU Safe Place has been benefited from the MSU Race for the Place 5k run/walk event that takes place every year.

Last weekend the event took place on Sunday, April 13, 2014, starting at the Jenison Field House which is located on MSU's campus. The run/walk started at 1 p.m. and the actual race took place on MSU's campus.

MSU Race for the Place not only held a 5k run/walk, but there were also many events going on inside Jenison Field House, to provide fun and games for all ages.

According to Director of MSU Safe Place, Holly Rosen, there were about 520 participants pre-registered for the event.

"It's been a wonderful fundraiser, I was at the first one, and I'm here 20 years later, and it's just exciting to be here," Rosen said. "It's a wonderful community event and MSU Safe Place is a really important program for our community."

There were many participants who have been involved with the race committee, MSU Safe Place, and the Clothesline Project.

The Clothesline Project was also on display at the event. This project is for all of those who have been victims of domestic violence. Individuals then express their emotions on a T-shirt provided for them by writing and decorating it and telling their story.

The shirts are then hung on a clothesline to be seen by others to help support, advocate, and stop domestic violence.

"It's really powerful and emotional to go through and read them, most people cry," said Carrie, an MSU student and race runner for the past four years."

This event is sponsored by many different venues, including CAMTV and HOMTV as media sponsors.

All of the funds raised go towards the benefit of MSU Safe Place, located on MSU's campus.
