Controlled Burns in the Township's Parks

Controlled Burns in the Township's
Parks

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Land Preservation Advisory Board is getting ready for prescribed burns in some of Meridian Township's parks and land preserves this spring.

The prescribed burns will take place in the Davis/Foster Preserve and at Ingham County’s Lake Lansing Park North, within the conservation easement that is held by Meridian Township Land Preservation. One of the main reasons for doing this is to control invasive plant species, which are a large problem for Meridian Township.

The burns will be done by trained professionals and does not involve much risk. This process has been used for many years and works by killing all of the invasive species in the area, allowing the native species to regrow rapidly. Dates have not yet been set for the prescribed burns.
