Deadline for New Personal Property Tax Exemption Approaching

Deadline for New Personal Property
Tax Exemption Approaching

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The deadline for businesses to file for new exemption from personal property tax is approaching.

Michigan business owners have until February 10th to file for the exemption.

By filing for the exemption, businesses will be exempt from all personal property tax for the 2014 year.

Julie Brixie, Meridian Township Treasurer, says it's especially important this year for small businesses in Meridian Township to fill out the paper work.

"The reason that it's more important this year is because the legislature has created an exemption for personal property, but the way that they have written the law is that if you don't fill out your personal property statement, you won't qualify for the exemption," said Treasurer Brixie.

In other words, businesses who are eligible for the exemption can only be granted that exemption by filing the proper paperwork by February 10th.
