Conner McCowan Murder Trial Begins

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - 19-year-old Conner McCowan from Okemos, accused of fatally stabbing MSU Senior Andrew Singler was in court this week.

McCowan is being charged with open murder in the stabbing of Singler at his Meridian Township apartment. Singler was the boyfriend of McCowan's sister.

The trail began this week with jury selection on Monday, September 30th and opening statements on Tuesday, October 1st. The final jury selected it was composed of seven women and seven men.

Honorable Judge Clinton Canady III of Ingham County explained to the jury pool what their duty's will be if selected to be in the final jury.

"Jurors must be as free as humanly possible from basis and prejudice and sympathy for either side. Each side is in-tiled to jurors who keep open minds until the time come to decide the facts of the case."

Canady said the trail could take up to 2 1/2 weeks. The defense will continue its examination of witnesses on Thursday, October 3rd and the trial will continue Friday into next week.
