UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township plans to get greener for 2013.

"There's quite a few things we have going on in the environmental community both locally and regionally," said Leroy Harvey, Recycling Coordinator for Meridian Township.

There are recycling events schduled for the end of April and beginning of October.

"We tend to recycle things that are hard to recycle normally and weuse it as an opportunity to educate some of the people in the community," said Harvey.

Downtown Okemos has plans on getting a facelift as well.

"The douglas J Salon is expanding and they are gonna be breaking ground some time in the spring," said Peter Mesner, assistant planner of Meridian Township.

Some hope that more businesses will follow the salon's lead and continue to expand.

"And we're hoping it has alot of spinoff potential in terms of other businesses not only upgrading their sites but possibly tracking other opportunities," said Mesner.
