Greenest High School

Greenest High School

UPDATE: EAST LANSING - Students and staff at both East Lansing High School and Okemos High School competed to see which school could reduce the greatest percentage of single-passenger automobile traffic in their school parking lots. The alternative options of transportation were carpooling, bus, walking, biking or vanpooling.

The contest was sponsored by the CATA Clean Commute Options Program (CCOP) with the goal of teaching the students the value of hard work, the joy of competition, and the various benefits of commuting to their destinations while respecting the environment.

The title of "Greenest High School" was originally held by Okemos High School, but that title was given to East Lansing High School who reduced their single-passenger automobile traffic in the parking lot by 27.5 percent.

Coordinator of CCOP, Ashley Hale stated, "The outstanding efforts and enthusiasm exhibited by the Trojans and Chieftains to prove Ingham County students and educators are not just leaders in the classroom but in their communities as well."

As the winners, East Lansing High School will now have the privilege and honor of proudly displaying the six-foot-tall, four-foot-wide trophy, which was created by recyclable materials.
