MSU Midnight Madness

UPDATE: EAST LANSING - The annual Midnight Madness event showcased the freshman as well as the growth of returning stars like Derek Nix and Keith Appling. The women's team was battling a few injuries on the team and decided to keep their scrimmage play to fan-involved activities like shooting contests and dribbling contests.

The fans really got a show when men's head coach Tom Izzo flew in from the rafters on a zip line in an Iron Man suit, donning the nickname "Iron Mountain Man," and had to save Sparty from the "Legion of Doom" that was located in Ann Arbor for the evening's story line. Women's head coach Suzy Merchant dressed up in a Wonder Woman outfit, a retro character she said is an impressive female figure in the super hero world which she compared to Michigan State University's women's basketball team as they celebrated their 40-year anniversary of competition.
There have been 77 All-Big Ten performers to play for the women's basketball team since it began in 1972.

They play their first game November 1 against Saginaw Valley State, and the men play their first game against Northwood Florida October 30. Both games are pre-season exhibition competitions.
