Haslett Library Resumes Fall Season Book Sale

Haslett Library Resumes Fall Season Book Sale

HASLETT, MI - The Friends of the Haslett Library held their annual Fall used book sale at 1590 Franklin Street on Saturday, October 23rd from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

The event took place in the library’s bookstore, the Bookend, at the rear of the library. The used book sale happens twice a year during the seasons of fall and spring. Both events were canceled in 2020 due to COVID, as well as spring of this year. A different variety of genres were available to choose from such as cooking, fiction, mystery, art and more. The sale was not only limited to books, but also CD’s, DVD’s and books on tape.

Along with this event, was a book basket silent auction where people bid on a basket where the highest bidder was notified at the end of the event to claim their winning basket home. Ginger Petty, the Co-Director of the Bookend Bookstore, has created the book baskets for 5 years and said the idea came from a member who was from New York, Gregory Wade, who had passed away and did basket sales and encouraged the Haslett library to create them and make them unique.

Marilyn Rye, the Director of the Friends of the Haslett Library, spoke with HOMTV and says, “People look forward to this event and advertise in advance so people know when the sale will occur and bring other people from other communities. All the books are donated by people in the community and we were happy to take the donation of books in good condition.”

Rye feels it’s an excellent way of helping people to have books for both adults and children at a reasonable price and has worked closely with the library staff, and have had requests to improve the library with the money that was earned from the event to fund projects and added, “I enjoy having people come and pleased to see people go out with their bag of books that they might have paid for one book at a retail store. It makes people happy.”
