• COVID-19 vaccinations are free throughout Michigan and flu vaccinations are free or low cost with insurance.

LANSING, MICH. - Although the coronavirus and its' corresponding vaccine might be on your mind, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is working to remind Michiganders to receive their flu vaccine as well.

Last year, flu season was at a historic low for cases, however the department is anticipating a more normal flu season.

Flu cases could reach numbers like the 2019-20 season. The department found 39-56 million cases of the flu throughout the nation with almost half a million flu hospitalizations.

"I encourage every Michigander to get their flu shot as soon as possible to protect themselves and their loved ones," Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said. "Last year, 3.5 million Michiganders got flu shots, and this year, I know we can meet MDHHS's statewide goal by bringing that number up to 4 million."

Individuals are able to get their flu and coronavirus vaccines at the same time and according to the CDC, people who have a high risk for contracting COVID-19 have similar risk for contracting the flu.

MDHHS said flu vaccines can be found at local health departments, pharmacies and physician offices.
