Family Nature Program and Private Visits at Harris Nature Center

Family Nature Program and Private Visits at Harris Nature Center

OKEMOS, MI - The Harris Nature Center in Meridian Township has begun a new program that offers families to watch wildlife. This winter, families can take home activities including supplies for making three different types of bird feeders, and an animal tracking bingo card. The fee is $5 per program kit and is due at the time of pick up. Allison Goodman, Park Naturalist for Meridian Township, says, “If families are looking for a way to spend time outside, this program provides a safe way to experience nature.”

Goodman encourages families to purchase a separate kit for each child in their household so that all children can make treats for wildlife in their yard.

Private visits are available Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm where visitors can call and schedule their family to visit the center with a 15 minute time block, and are required to wear masks. There is no fee for private visits and the building is sanitized in between each scheduled visit. “We are excited to welcome visitors back into the Nature Center in a way that is safe for everyone. Families will be able to look around and visit with all of their favorite animals again,” said Parks and Land Preservation Superintendent Kati Adams.
