Meridian Cares Collecting Monetary Donations During the Winter Holidays

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Community Resources Commission (CRC) is asking the community to come together this holiday season with monetary donations.

Meridian Cares is a long established program stemming from the CRC. It’s designed to provide relief to families in the community who are in financial need. Meridian Cares has provided aid to hundreds of families in the Township and prevented many from homelessness.

This year, with the impact of COVID-19, Meridian Township Human Service Specialist Darla Jackson says they are seeing a lot of people who have been “really impacted” by the recent economic down-turn.

Although cutbacks have been made to the typical holiday programs due to the virus, Jackson stated they will continue to solve crises.

“We are doing everything we can to make sure everyone’s basic needs are met,” Jackson said.

Currently 200 households are signed up for Holiday Food baskets. Other initiatives of the Meridian Cares go toward helping households get beyond their financial crisis by providing financial aid toward rent, utility bills, medication, transportation and more.

Meridian Cares is accepting monetary donations throughout the winter holidays. Jackson says those interested in getting involved should visit the Township website or email Darla Jackson at jackson@meridian.mi.us.
