EAST LANSING, MI - The Meridian Township Board held a virtual meeting on Thursday, November 5th, to give an update on the fate of the Walnut Hills Country Club, which is located at 2874 East Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing.

The Walnut Hills Country Club is an old property that has been vacant since 2018 due to safety infractions and violations due to having dangerous materials exposed, such as shattered glass from broken windows, tampered/ajar doors, brick walls crumbling and weathered roofs, and an exposed pool with debris on the surface.

Meridian Township Manager Frank Walsh was in attendance at last night’s meeting and says the strategy that the Board has implemented with both parties to work together on this issue of demolition has reached an agreement with the owners of the property, Summer Park Realty. “They’re lining people up and this is going to move forward. Our strategies work perfectly and get what we wanted without spending any more dollars through a legal council or court systems,” said Walsh.

Trustee Dan Opsommer thanked Manager Walsh for all the time and energy that has gone into the project and working with the family to make sure they were prepared on their part and proceeded quickly and is hopeful that on Monday or a week or two have a final conclusion to this issue.

Township Manager Walsh also acknowledged Derek Perry, as well Mark Kieselbach and Principal Planner Peter Menser for being involved with the project and communicating with each other over the last 6 months. Walsh added, “We’ve had good relationships with all parties involved thanking everyone and moving forward with the project with a closing date of Monday, November 9th."
