Meridian Township Board Approves Site Plan For Village Of Okemos

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On July 9th, the Meridian Township Board unanimously voted to approve the proposed site plan and permit for the Village of Okemos project.

This allows this mixed use development project to move forward in it’s clean-up efforts of contaminated soils to revitalize and safely reuse multiple properties along Okemos and Hamilton Roads.

The soil remediation work is being conducted by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.

Once this project is finished, residents can look forward to new additions to the area including boutiques, cafes, restaurants and the flagship Douglas J Salon and Spa.

Township Trustee Dan Opsommer said, “People want a town center that provides something for everyone so I think that's what we have due to the diligence on this project and the fact that we have six different architects.”

Brett Dreyfus, Township Clerk, expressed some drawbacks to the project but ultimately voted yes along with the rest of the Board.

“A handful of citizens expressed concerns about the height, and if the apartment complex will fit in the area,” he said. “We have to make sure that there's really not a real world back up traffic that causes repercussions.”

HOMTV will continue following this story as progress on the project continues.
