Burgdorf Winery

Burgdorf Winery

UPDATE: HASLETT - I visited Burgdorf's Winery in Haslett, Michigan to learn a little bit about what it takes to be a vintner, wine tasting and pairing.

Husband and wife duo Dave and Deb Burgdorf own and run the local winery and were kind enough to give me a tour of the place. From the laboratory to the vineyard to the tasting room, Dave explained how grapes go from the vine to the bottle, and the short version goes like this: picked, pressed, fermented, bottled, corked, labelled, packaged then shipped.

Dave assured me that if I was not crazy about one type of wine to not give it up, that outside effects, such as the type of day I've had, what I've eaten earlier, what I am limiting my self to may all play a role. He said to not pitch the wine but to try it again tomorrow.

Deb, the vintner at Burgdorf's gave me tips on how to pair wine with meals. I tried to stump her with a tricky questions, if I was going to a dinner party and had no clue what was on the menu, what wine should I bring? Her immediate answer was "Burgdorf's!" and then she broke it down more specifically for me. A semi-sweet would touch both palates she assured me and would be the best choice.

Burgdorf's is the perfect place for a private party, the back patio can be reserved, a wine tasting can be set up and you and your friends can even make your own batch of wine.
